Wrap Your Valentine In Velvet – Red Velvet!

12VdayTreats-milkshake

Through the years, the traditional Valentine’s Day items have solidified themselves into what I like to call the C.R.B.CCards, Roses and a Box of Chocolates. Clearly they work otherwise they wouldn’t be the go-to staple each February 14th but what if your sweetheart isn’t the C.R.B.C. type? Is all hope lost for a lovely Hallmark Holiday? The answer, dear kiddies, is NO, not on DIY2EMC’s watch! The answer? Red Velvet Milkshakes! These little sweet treats are the perfect blend of V-Day tradition with a new fangled twist.  Red Velvet is a delicious alternative to a box of chocolates and the ‘must-drink-now’ property of the shake keeps portion control within reach. Wanna know how to ditch the box but keep the sweet? Then Let’s Do The DIY Thang, shall we?  First up, this recipe is enough for either 2 regular sized shakes or 6 mini cups…now how’s THAT for versatility? To whip up this tasty treat you’ll need to grab the following:
  • 1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 3 tablespoons Red Velvet Cake Mix
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Whipped Cream
  • Heart Shaped Sprinkles (Or just red, pink or white will do nicely)
  • A Blender

Now its on to the oh-so-daunting task of placing the ice cream, cake mix, vanilla extract and milk in the blender and mixing ’til smooth. The pour into your desired cup/glass/mug, top with a dollop of whipped cream, a pinch of sprinkles and VOILA – A totally inventive sweet treat for your sweetpea! Unlike a box of chocolates, this is ‘one & done’ so you will always know what you’re going to get AND it keeps the temptation to over indulge at an all time low.  Prefer a more ‘cakey’ taste to your milkshake? Try more mix and Cake Batter Flavored Ice Cream! You can mix and match this a multitude of ways so feel free to make it your own, regardless of the season. They’re all guaranteed to be absolutely delicious and definitely bring all the boys to the yard.
