As the end of the year draws near we can’t help but notice the influence it’s had on us – mind, body and soul. The chill makes us unable to think about anything other than how cold it is, our skin is as dry and flaky as a biscuit and what the year’s worth of product hasn’t wrecked in our hair the wind, rain and varying temperature has. We can eleviate one of those with the help of our new BFF – Coconut Oil. It’s been known as a tasty treat and an excellent skin soother but those combined make this the perfect 1-2 punch for brittle hair. Ready to get your straw stick strands back to luscious barbie-esque locks? Then Lets Do The DIY Thang, shall we? You’ll need a jar of Coconut Oil, a hair clip or tie, a shower cap, and hairdryer. Make sure your hair is dry for this otherwise the oil won’t soak in properly. Grab a handful of oil from the jar, flip your head upside down and work it through your hair from root to tip. Dont worry about the goopiness, it will begin to melt the moment it touches your hands. Once your hair is nice and saturated, twist it into a bun and secure it with your clip or tie, placing the shower cap on to follow. Then with your hairdryer on medium heat, blow all around the shower cap so that your entire head is nice and warm, allowing the coconut oil (which penetrates our hair cuticle easier than any other oil) to soak into all the hairs on your pretty little head. You’ll need to apply the heat via your blowdryer continuously for about 15 mins. To pass the time while we blew our soon-to-be-luscious locks, we jammed out to a few vintage Mariah classics that somehow seemed appropriate. (Who DOESN’T belt it to Mariah when they know there’s no danger of getting busted? Anyone? Anyone? Exactly.) Once your 15min jam-fest is done, wash and condition your hair as you normally would. (TIP: For those who have finer locks, a double shampoo post coconut oil but before conditioning works like a charm.) When it comes time to style, you’ll be amazed at how silky and shiny your hair will be. (TIP: Wanna keep the shine factor high between Coconut Oil treatments? Ditch the fluffy yet abrasive towel for an old worn tee shirt when drying. True Story – IT WORKS.) Your locks will thank you and your friends will ask what you’ve been doing to make your hair so damn’d sexy. Maybe you’re born with it, maybe it’s DIY-genuity but either way your end result is straight up sexy.

Soo much nicer than the mayo my mamma used on my head back in the last century.
Just say No to Mayo and Yes to Coconut Oil!
