….Ahhh the ‘simpler times’. We think of them often. Memories of days passed filled with happy times and perfect moments – back when nothing went wrong and everything was blissfully right. Or was it really? It’s funny how the mind can innately omit the negative once the trials and tribulations have gone. Just like the old adage, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, like a kid in a candy store, our memories can be just as selective. When looking at a current situation that leaves you meek, weak and too bummed to speak, remember that this too shall pass. Our fondest memories never seemed like it in the moment, its only after we’ve come out of the trash that we can truly see what a treasured experience it was. So who cares if the brisket burned, bills never seem to stop coming and the dog just ate your car key. What you’ll remember long after is the laughter than ensued over plumes of smoke, the fiscal creativity you gained while figuring out the checkbook and the time you used fluffy’s butt to unlock the car door. The time when “everything was simple” never truly ended….it’s happening right now in this very moment. It just takes time for your brain to remember the fun that came from such hellish moments not to mention the positivity found surviving them.
