With Halloween just a day away there’s still time to get your decor frightfully fun for your neighborhood trick or treaters through the power of Pumpkins! No time to gut those gourds? No worries! Here are some great alternatives that are half as messy, twice as easy and all festively fun! First is a new twist on an old easter favorite – enhance your mini pumpkins with food coloring – no scooping required! Simply take White baby pumpkins, carve out the faces, soak in your favorite food coloring as you would an easter egg (approx. 20 mins) and VOILA! You’re halloween wonders are now filled with a colorful POP! The longer they sit the more vibrant the hue and its completely customizable in design so the possibilities with this project are endless! We plan on using this same concept for our holiday decor, replacing the spooktacular faces with Holiday themed shapes thanks to our new festive cookie cutters – Check back for the update!
Ready to rock your entry every “witch” way? Skip the carving all together and bring your pumpkins to life with paint! Whether its a leggy look at your witchy side, an autumn argyle homage or gobs of glittery goodness, you can’t go wrong with the paintable power of the pumpkin! Much like our dip dyed favorite from above, this DIY ditty is as just versatile but no where near as permanent. Depending on the type of paint you use, clean up can be a snap and recycling your masterpiece is just as easy. Simply wash away your monster masterpiece and repaint with a new harvest scene or turkey tribute just in time for Thanksgiving. Thanks to our local farmers market, we can’t wait to use this idea for a Cinderella themed birthday party, complete with mini mice, glitter galore and even an appearance from prince charming himself – Stay Tuned!
Not that spiffy with a brush? If your painting prowess looks more ‘abstract’ than Van Gogh have no fear – Puffy Paint is here! With the simple use of these prepackaged paints, there’s no need for a brush yet plenty of room for creative expression. Whether it’s a series of colorful dots, twirly swirls or even the most abstract of patterns, this by far is the easiest of the painted pumpkin bunch. Looking to make the pizzazz a bit more personal? Take this concept to your Thanksgiving table. By writing the names of each of your guests on mini pumpkins and using them as place cards, you creatively guide your friends and family to their seats while giving them a harvest themed gift to take home! We LOVE to see what you come up with so send us pics of your painted pumpkin ideas and we’ll feature our faves in special Thanksgiving post!
And there you have it! Fun festive ways to make your pumpkins pop without breaking the bank or making stringy-seedy mess. To quote our favorite Peanut, Linus: “Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He’s gotta pick this one. He’s got to. I don’t see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there’s not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see.” Whatever method you chose, we’re sure it’s 100% DIY2EMC worthy and Great Pumpkin approved.
